Niche Niche

We have these 2 art niche's in the house that are still empty... I am very picky when it comes to what I place there, which is why they are still empty.

I can tell you what I do not want: pictures with people in them / family pictures, generic art, large candle holders/metal wall hangings that hold votives, metal leaf designs, silk flowers, etc.

I found a print that I think would look wonderful in one niche, now I just need to figure out the second. I think the other one needs some depth and dimension. This picture does not do a good job, but the other one is pretty tall (about 6') and about 12" deep. Ideas?

I like that print a lot. We have a tall and skinny niche that has a mirror in it now, and a shorter one that has candles in it. I wish they were actually big enough for artwork!

PS I missed the boat on the private blog. My email is lml_tipsyinmadras@yahoo.com!o

How about having a muralist paint something that makes it look like a window with a view of the countryside? You know, cows, chickens, a barn on some rolling hills? You could even hang some shutters to make it more authentic.

I just saw that print or one like it in Ballard Designs. IMO, pick something original. If you're highlighting it in your home, it should have meaning to you and/or your husband. Did you take any really great photos on your last trip to Europe? Great architecture shots would look good in black/white with matting and nice frames.

If you want literal depth and dimension, you could have things put in shadowboxes, like maybe two, one over the other. If you do it yourself it's easy and fairly inexpensive (you can get shadowboxes at a frame shop or somewhere like Michaels) but if you go custom it gets really pricey.

How pretty. You might want to browse etsy, as there are a lot of reasonably priced prints/photos/paintings for sale there. One other option is blowing up a large photo you took through Pottery Barn Teen into a canvas that you can hang? I think they still do that?

Oooh, I love that look. It isn't something that I would immediately pick out, but I LOVE it there!
