Report Card

Yesterday we took Jake to his first day of doggy daycare.



And hopefully it was not his last day. His report card was less than glowing and our pup was pretty antisocial.

PLAY - Sat it out
FRIENDS - Watched from the sidelines
NAP - Too excited to rest
FOOD - Eager for a meal at home
POTTY - Took a little coaxing
ALL DAY - Missed you

Jake was very nervous. We put him with the small dogs and he seemed to do ok, but he didn't really play with anyone.

I think this report card might almost be a failing grade - possibly a D?

But, even though Jake does not know how to play well with other dogs, there is one person that he knows how to play with.

Seeing the two of them together makes it so much easier to deal with all of his other crazy dog behavior. I would so much rather have this toddler loving dog that is sometimes wacked out nutzo versus a dog that is not good with children.

Doggy Drugs

Almost 1 year ago we adopted this sweet little guy.

He was a loveable, cuddly, energetic pup.

And now, he has turned into this. (Jake at 11 months)

He is still sweet and loveable, but his energy level has gone through the roof. I know what it is like to have a puppy lab, but I think he may have been dropped on his head one too many times as a baby. Or, he has a mental illness. Either way, I think we need to get him drugged.

He will go ballistic a couple of times each day and when you let him outside, that is when the split personality really comes out.

Jumping, growling, barking, trying to attack your legs.... We keep spray bottles around to discipline him, but I am sick of the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde stuff.

The positive is that he has never messed with Miss A. She can climb on him, scold him, chase him, pull his tail, kiss and love on him, and just be a wild toddler around him and he has never once been aggressive toward her.

So tell me - do you sedate your dog? Should I try to get him on film acting nutzo?

I hate carpet

Carpet is nasty.

There is no way around it.... you walk on it. You spill things on it. Animals pee on it. Toddlers do all sorts of things to it. It is full of dust and dirt. All sorts of stuff just seeps down into those fibers and lingers. And eventually it ends of looking like crap.

Our house is about half carpet. If it were up to me, we would rip that stuff out and replace it with polished concrete or something cool. I don't even want wood - too many things can mess up wood. Anyway, back to the disgusting carpet. Our master bedroom is carpeted as well as the entire upstairs.... including the bathroom - genius idea - right? I hate this carpet. It was brand new when we moved into the house 2 years ago, but I want it gone. I have horrible allergies and I don't even want to think about the amount of dust mites that are shacking up throughout my house.

The master bedroom is the baaad.... basically, Jake used our room as his puppy training area. I have tried zillions of cleaners and none of them really worked. So, the other day The Foundary had a Bissell sale. I snatched a Little Green Machine and it arrived on my front porch yesterday.

As soon as Miss A went down for her nap I went to town in that room.

I used ALL of the cleaning solution that came with the machine and that was not enough. I am pretty sure this is only supposed to be used to clean small areas, but I did the entire room. I won't go as far as to say that the carpet is as good as new, BUT it looks a heck of a lot better.

Want a glimpse as to what the crap looked like that came out of the carpet? Heck no will I show you what came out of MY carpet. But, I will show you a picture of someone elses nasty carpet water.

When you adopt a puppy or become a parent, you should automatically be given one of these. And, one of these just for good measure. I use our steam mop every couple of days and love it.

* He must really like the taste of Havaianas - this is the 2nd pair he has destroyed. Not to mention to pairs of Reef sandals.

Jake - 3 months

Someone is growing like crazy.

I am not sure how much he weighs, but just look at how much bigger he is! He is just a little over 3 months old. And, he got a new collar over the weekend! Check out that orange gingham.... he is a stylish pup.

Pink and Green Easter

The Easter bunny visited our house over the weekend and left basket full of pink and green goodies for Miss A!

What exactly does the Easter bunny bring for 1 year old little girls?

Sidewalk chalk, bubbles, clothes, books, a sippy cup and plate and hair clips!

And, our little Jake is quickly becoming big Jake. Here he is at 8 weeks old.

Jake and Steve may not be best friends, but they are learning to tolerate each other.

Problem Solved

What do you do when you have a puppy that is whimpering to be held, yet you are busy cooking dinner and tending to your toddler?

You put him your baby sling!

Puppy Dog Eyes

My brother's dog recently had 9 puppies and over the weekend we made a trip down to Austin to play with the pups.... and see if one wanted to come live with us. I think the white puppy would make a pretty good birthday gift for Miss A.

How could you ever say no to this big puppy dog eyes?!?!

Puppy Love

This Saturday we are probably going to go look at puppy Golden Doodles. LOOK being the key word. As much as I would love to bring home a new puppy, the rational side of my brain snaps into gear and brings me back to reality. A puppy and baby at the same time? Maybe not a good idea.

(I had this breed picked out long before there was even talk of the First Dog..... Maybe we could have a puppy play date with Sasha and Malia)

Steve the Cat

I am the proud owner of a cat that loves to snuggle.... that is until he has had enough, and then he will bite the crap out of you.

Also, I used the FREE photo editing site Picnik to play with these pictures. It is easy to use and incredibly addicting.

She was a good dog.

Actually, she was a perfect dog. This morning, we had to put our family dog to sleep. Scooter has been a part of our life for the past 17 years and she will be missed.
