Such is life

Yesterday was one of those perfect fall days that you just want to bottle up and save for a dreary January. Not a single cloud in the sky, not too cool, not too warm and perfect for feeding the neighborhood ducks. So, when I got home from work A and I walked over to the neighborhood pond to get rid of some stale bread as well as suck up this perfect weather.

I took some pictures of a mama duck and her 12 baby ducks….

Took some pictures of the changing leaves…

Took some pictures of A…

And then I tried to take some pictures of A and me. My myself. With a big camera. Not an easy task, but luckily another mom appeared just in time and offered to take our picture. She and I started chatting and we really hit it off. *****

She was a young, fun mom – check!
And she has a little girl - check!
And she likes to feed the ducks – check!
And she is moving to Denver on Thursday – fail!

Such if life that on top of a pretty crappy Monday I would meet another fun mom that lives in my ‘hood only to find out that she is moving… this week.

Now, if I find out that my other new mom friend is moving away this week, I might never again venture out to the mall or pond.

*** I think that meeting other moms is like dating. Do they like me? Will they call me? Should I email them? How long should I wait to call or email? What should I wear? Ahhhhhh……..

I think as your child gets older it becomes easier to meet people, when they are mobile it just opens up a whole new world! Plus you'll see more and more that she enjoys being around other kids, which makes "getting out" more of a priority. Taking little classes can be a fun way to meet moms, I've met some really good friends through Music Together.

I have also met alot of people at the park or in music class that remind me that just because we have kids the same age, doesn't mean we have a thing in common! :) Such is life, right?

I so agree with you on the mom-dating! Yesterday at the grocery store I saw a mom that I met ONCE at Gymboree and I totally debated going up to say hello. Lame.

That is so great. You are right about connecting with other mommies! I so wish I had more girlfriends with munchkins. My little man needs more play dates!

Oh man that stinks. My friend in Denver (newly moved) is having the same problem, we should get them in touch :)

Meeting moms is a whole new world to me...maybe we can conquer it together. Wish we lived closer :)

Ugh. I'm sorry-- that's definitely tough. I heard a mom once talk about how finding and keeping a good babysitter is like dating too :)

Good luck on your next park visit-- fingers crossed for a mom-friend that isn't moving!

That is so great! I feel like that when I meet new friends, asking them out on the first "date" is always the hardest..."sooo, do you want to do lunch sometime?" hehehe

I hope you have another wonderful day!
