30 Day Shred

I started the 30 Day Shred this week in hopes of being super skinny and hot by the time we baptise Miss A. (I am not going to stand up in front of the entire church still looking chubby and flabby. Yes, I am vain enough to admit to these things)

After 4 days of Level 1, I am feeling good. There are a couple of questions I have for Jillian...

  • What is that tattoo on your ankle?
  • Why do you rave over the blonde's abs? You my dear have killer abs.
  • Why are you not wearing cuter workout clothes? I also sometimes wear rolled waist sweatpants, but then again I don't have my own workout video.
  • Why do I feel like such a goober during the punching section of cardio? My right side is decent, but I am a fool on my left side.

Anyone else doing The Shred? How are the other levels?

Self Magazine

This seems like it might be legit.... I guess we will see in a couple weeks!

Click here for a free subscription to Self Magazine. This is one of my favorite magazines - they have such great exercises and it is easy to read while working out.

Boot Camp 101

I have been doing boot camp for a little over 1 week and I am LOVING it! I do half morning sessions, half evening sessions and it is defiantly something that I look forward to. There are different instructors, depending on when you attend, so there is always variety. In the mornings, we meet inside a mall.... so, as I am running past Banana Republic OR J Crew OR Victoria's Secret for the umpteenth time, I can begin to picture the clothes in my closet. Plus, I can see when they get cute, new stuff!

Since every session is a little bit different, you never have one part of your body that is sore.... you entire body is sore! But, I am one of those workout freaks that actually likes being sore after a good workout. It makes me feel like I am actually doing something.

Right now I am sitting on my couch with a glass of wine in hand, watching the Barbara Walters Oscar special. She just interviewed Vanessa Williams and she seemed to be one of the most honest actresses I have heard. Barbara asked her about how she maintains her 'look.' Vanessa was very upfront with it all -- Botox, multiple trainers, a special food delivery service, etc. I love how honest she was! Too many times these actresses act like they look like they do, without ever having to work at at. I love how she accepted the fact that looking a certain way does not come with simply good luck or good genes. Both of those things help, but you also have to work at getting that way.

Off to make dinner.... pan seared tilipia, couscous and salad. I am trying to get fish into our diet at least 3X a week.

Down and give me 50!

I am someone that eats relatively decent and I work out most of the time BUT there always seems to be that lingering weight around my mid-section. I know that is normal, but I do not like it! As much as I run and workout, that area should be non existent. Hopefully this will do something about my mid-section.

BlueBird and I have signed up for the month long Jay Johnson Fitness Bootcamp. If you recognize him, it is because that he is on the Making of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader show… he kicks their butts into shape! Maybe I will look like a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader when this is all over. OR maybe I will hardly be able to get out of bed. We shall see.

The program is set up for you to attend a minimum of 3X a week, but we plan on attending 5X a week -- 2 sessions after work, 2 before work, and Saturday morning. Sunday will be our day of rest.

I will report back tomorrow and let you know how tonight goes.

I have already signed up…. I don’t think that it is a hoax, it looked pretty legit.

Workout Music

Last night on my run I I skipped over every other song on my iPod because I was sick of working out to the same music. I HAVE TO HAVE music when I am running. If the iPod dies mid cardio, I am screwed... music gives the inspiration to get as skinny as Jessica or have that smokin hot bod like the lovely ladies in JT's videos.

So, I need an update on my running music. Skipping over songs and messing with my iPod while running is not a good thing because:

a) I almost ran into a lawn track that was filled with mulch. Not only would I have busted by butt, I would have also smelled like manure and have probably broken a bone.
b) I ran into a huge puddle, getting water and mud all over my back side.
c) I almost got my shoe stuck in a massive pot hole that appeared out of nowhere... therefore, almost breaking a bone.
d) I could have been hit by a Land Rover... which may or may not have been driven by Mr.Accountant's ex... just a thought.

Below is my workout playlist. Any suggestions will be appreciated and possibly purchased on iTunes!

Run Dad Run!

Some people go through a mid life crisis and they buy a sports car. Some people have an affair. I am proud to say that my dad is doing none of the above – instead he has decided to run a half marathon! The man that loves the nightly bowl of Blue Bell ice cream…. The man that loves chips and salsa. The man that loves Dr. Pepper.

This new man now wears a pedometer and tracks his daily steps. He now drinks Diet Dr. Pepper. He now skips that nightly bowl of Blue Bell ice cream.

At the ripe old age of 45 he was diagnosed with severe prostate cancer. He battled that and after 5 years, is still cancer free. So, that probably had a huge influence on him when he decided to sign up for Race for Life half-marathon, this June in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a huge thing for him and we are soo extremely proud of him. You can read more about running journey here.

Good luck dad!

PS — He is planning on running the full marathon with me in December!

Walk / Jog / Run

For all of you runners / joggers / walkers, http://www.walkjogrun.net/ is a really great site.

I have often wondered how far I run, but this way I can accurately tell. Plus, you can save the routes and use them as a way to track how far you run.

I did this yesterday on a couple of my favorite routes --- one was a lot shorter than I had thought! Looks like I need to step it up when I do that one…..
