Your mind goes crazy places in the middle of the night.
For instance, last night our fire alarm went off around 4am. It only lasted for a couple of seconds and then it stopped. But, it was enough to wake us up from a dead sleep. The Mr. inspected the house and found nothing, but as I was trying to fall back to sleep my mind started churning......
First let me say, I am not a worrier. I don't always think about the 'what ifs' and I never have any problems sleeping. But, there is something about the middle of the night that makes you insane.
Here is an example of how being awake at 4am makes you delusional..... Part of our AC unit is up in the attic, so I started thinking that there was a possibility the unit in the attic could have sparked a fire. And if it was on fire, how long would it take until we started to smell smoke? Our neighborhood is right behind a fire station, so that was reassuring..... especially at 4am. I knew that the second I smelled smoke one of us would run upstairs and grab Miss A. But, what about the animals? Jake (the dog) would be easy to find, but would it be easy to find his leash? What about Steve (the cat)? He normally sleeps in one of the living room chairs, but what if he was not that easy to locate? And then what would we do with him while we were outside? I decided I would grab a tote bag, toss him in it and zip it up! And then, what all would I have time to grab as we were running out of the house?
Please tell me I am not the only one that does this. Surely the middle of the night has claimed others?

5 Additional Thoughts:

Yep, I have thought about ex-boyfriends, about new babiesu, about how we still need to GET A WILL (!!!), about recipes I want to try, about scary, crazy life stuff, and, well, usually about more babies :)
You're not crazy!!
Oh, I am a big middle of the night worrier! I can imagine the most horrible things at that time.
The other night, I made the mistake of reading about a terrible crime that happened in Kansas several years ago. It was unintentional, I just kind of stumbled on it while browsing on the web. Well. It was also the night that my husband worked late. He rarely works that late, so I'm not used to being alone at night. Needless to say, I laid in bed and imagined all sorts of horrible things. I was so glad when he finally got home!
I could have written this post myself...you are not crazy! I was up around the same time last night b/c I heard a strange noise...and started thinking crazy too!
XOXO
Ha, you are not the only one. I am a worrier and what if-er! We have 2 dogs and now we have 2 extra leashes in the bedroom (they sleep in there with us) on the bottom shelf of the nightstand just in case any type of emergency happens. Living in KY, this was instituted after a night of tornado warnings in a house with no basement!
Glad everything was ok :)
