When it was mine, it was white with little hand painted flowers and I think my name might have been painted on it. It has now been sanded down and all ready to to be painted for Miss A.
It will most likely be kept in our living room, so I want to keep it fun without too 'kiddish.' You all know 'kiddish' is NOT my thing.
I am thinking I will paint it glossy white and add a turquoise monogram decal on the seat. Or her name. Have no decided.

But, this is where I need your help. I have never used these decals before. They can be used on top of a glossy paint - right? And, if you have ordered one before, let me know your source. I found some on Etsy, but if you have someone you liked, let me know.

11 Additional Thoughts:
The Vinyl should stcik but the chair may need a very light sanding where youput the letters first. We put vinyl letters on glossy painted pumpkins & they started peeling. Could be the surface.

What a neat idea! I would be worried about a decal, especially on the seat rubbing off. Maybe stenciling would work better?
I used this etsy seller for Maddy and Libby's wall decals. http://www.etsy.com/shop/decalmonograms
She was very nice & I'm sure you could ask her about the glossy paint. I think it will look adorable!
Oh, I can't wait to see how it turns out. Adorable!
I tried to use a monogram on top of an acrylic paint and the paint peeled. I was told they work much better with oil based paints. HTH!
I just ordered a decal from Marilyn at Decal Monograms, she has a site on Etsy and I am obsessed with what she does. It was REALLY easy to apply, we put it on the wall above the baby's crib, and it looks great and we got it in less than 3 days. I am really impressed with her work, and she is really nice to boot!
Adorable rocking chair! It is so sweet to have your childhood rocking chair to pass on to your daughter!
For my decals, I always order from decalmonograms on Etsy. I have ordered quite a few from her and have not been disappointed!
I think a monogram in the seat would be awesome. Although, I think you may want to go with matte paint. We used a monogram decal on Gray's wall and I'm just not sure how durable it would be on a glossy surface. And you know as soon as it started to peel, the baby would become obsessed with peeling it off!
I just designed/decorated a friends nursery and used a wall decal. One of the walls is multiple stripes one being high gloss. No problem adhering the decal to the wall. Such a cute idea!
I've used this seller a couple of times:
