With this ring...

Man / Woman.
Woman / Man.
Woman / Woman.
Man / Man.

Who cares?!?! Love is love and if 2 people are in love and want to spend the rest of their life together, then more power to you! Just when you think the country is moving forward, things like Proposition 8 in California (and likewise propositions in other states) get scrapped.

Maybe someday everyone will be free to marry the one they love.

Oh, Mrs. Preppy, I am probably going to be in trouble over this one, but here goes. The Bible speaks against this. I guess if a person is not a Christian or an atheist, then it doesn't matter. But for those of us who follow the teachings of Jesus, we know we aren't allowed to just live our life any way we want. Now with that said, I am also commanded love everyone regardless of their sexual orientation, and I do. But this is why so many people fight this issue. Kathie

Eloquent post, Mrs. Preppy.

I totally agree with you. And it must be said that our gov't doesn't base all its laws on the Christian Bible.

I just stumbled upon your blog and I have to say that I totally agree with you! Just when you think we're taking a step in right direction something pushes us back! Sometimes I don't understand Americans...

Mrs. Preppy, I have to comment, too. I believe that men and women have the right to love and be with whomever they choose. If you're happy, I'm happy... but, I also believe in the sanctity of marriage and marriage, according to the bible, is between a man and a woman.

I agree with you that everyone should be allowed to marry whomever they want! I feel sad that Prop 8 is passing...

Also, I made a new blog that's not private! I hated barely having any readers, and this blog won't talk much about work. Please check it out! I'm getting rid of the other one soon!

mrs. preppy- Thanks for posting this, since you are absolutely right! It is just horrible that 8 didnt pass is cali. It is the 21st century and people should have the right to choose as they please. that is that

Here in Florida, Ammendment 2 passed on Tuesday to "protect" marriage and ANY civil union/legal binding by keeping it between a man and a woman. So stupid if you ask me... I think it is terrible. Two people in love should have the right to legal bind their lives no matter their sexual orientation.

I think that by following the teachings of Jesus, I love each person for who they are, how God made them from the moment they were born. Jesus wouldn't preach hate or judgemental attitudes, just love and pureness of heart.

Don't even get me started! I can sort of understand the reasons why people do not "approve" but don't understand why religion must play into it. Separation of church and state anyone? I'm just glad I am in DC where I can focus on at least one major win ;)

hey there mrs. preppy. i agree with you! i think we are probably pretty alone in this in preppy blogland (although i am not officially a preppy blogger:)

i very strongly believe in the ideal that this is a country that has a separation between church and state. there are many things that i do not believe in or agree with because of my faith, but, if my motivation for opposing something is entirely faith based, i don't think i have a right to legislate that or force that belief on others who may not share the same beliefs. i just don't believe i have the right to subject others to my beliefs.

as a christian, i do my best to walk the lord's path and love others. i also try to work really hard at not being judgmental, something i struggle with daily!

changing laws will not change people's hearts or minds (not that i am out there trying to make people change). when people so vehemently oppose gay marriage, i wonder, what they are trying to accomplish? gay people will still want to get married. if they are truly concerned about the sin, as they see it, they should be concerned and putting all of their energies into trying to understand those that are different from them and working with those that they consider sinners (even though, we are all sinners, but hey, i guess some folks consider that sin to be worse than their own sins) instead of preaching negativity. it is so divisive and toxic.

very well put. i've been to upset over this one passing to write about it. i think i'll get there tonight. as a californian who voted NO and is a very religious catholic, i feel like we took a huge step backwards. i really do hope it gets turned over in courts because everyone deserves rights.

Has anyone heard of seperation of church and state!!!??? That is fine you believe that the bible tells you it is wrong, but that should have nothing to do with the laws and governance and basic human rights of the people.SEPERATE....that was the whole point of this country. I think you were brave to voice your opinion Mrs. Preppy.

Thank you for your post. I am a very proud southerner Christian lady living with my partner in SC. I realize that our state will never allow us to marry, but that is OK. I do not need the government to tell me it is OK to love someone. The only thing I would like is for the security to know that she will be able to be my sole heir and to have the final say in my medical care - but I can take care of that with a Will and a Healthcare Power of Attorney and a Living Will. I am a practicing Episcopalian, and believe that God loves everyone no matter who they sleep with. I do not believe he looks into your bedroom at night to find sin - just love.

Again, thank you for your post. It makes my heart sing to read your words.

Totally agree. I also agree that if a CHURCH wants to put limitations on marriage in their CHURCH, go for it. Catholic churches like you to be Catholic, Mormon's to be Mormon, etc. They are free to specify man plus woman only. But the government and the Bible are NOT the same thing. And I like it that way. So does everyone else, even if they won't admit it. Because what if we did follow the Bible in government. Who's interpretation would we follow? Catholic? 7th Day? Mormon? Baptist? JV? FLDS? They are all different, kids! Each has their own interpretation. Yeah, separation of church and state is a fabulous thing! I vote we keep it that way!

And yeah for Connecticut! Hip hip hoorah for equality!!

Oh I am so glad others have this view! I was raised very strict Catholic, but think love is precious and hard to find, at least true love, so if you find it, you should be able to celebrate it no matter what! Everyone should have the opportunity to marry the one they love. The ones who cheapen the marriage sacrament are those who marry for the wrong reason and not for love, they shouldn't be allowed to get married!

I'm pretty sure Jesus would have voted against prop. 8.

Thank God someone finally has a respectful and mature thought on this situation. I believe in God and I also believe in love, and I see no reason why we cannot have both.

Congrats!

I totally agree. I was raised in a very strict Christian home and my parents always told me that being gay was a sin and against the Bible, so that they will all go to hell. But to that point the Bible says "Love the sinner, Hate the sin".

They are humans just like we are and they deserve the same rights as we do, whether we agree or disagree with how they've chosen to live their life and who they choose to love.
