Run The Rock

I may be certifiably crazy for what I am about to embark on. Who in their right mind would willingly run 26.2 miles – for the fun of it? Mrs. Preppy is sure going to try.

I have read that you gain about 10 – 15 pounds your first marriage and I do not want to fall into that trap. Therefore, I am going to begin training for a marathon. I figured this is a great place to announce my plan and you all can help keep me on track.

I think I am going to start local, with the White Rock Marathon in Dallas. It is held every December, so I am thinking that should be good running weather. Wish me luck….. Right now my goal is going to beat Oprah’s marathon time. (She even beat Katie Holmes) I have a good feeling about this one.

If anyone has any tips, suggestions, words of advice, please pass them along. I have no idea what I am getting myself in, but I am jumping in with both feet!

I ran the NYC Marathon two years ago and loved it- however to train I logged on to www.nyrr.org and they have a schedule to follow on how many miles to run a day...
Good luck.

Old man Vines -
Is that a challenge?! Help me get 25 lbs of fat off this old body and I'll meet at Winfrey Point!

I hope you are planning for White Rock 2008 and not 2007! That's my suggestion and advice. If it's your first time, join a running/training group. I suggest Baylor Tom Landry's program but it might be more convenient for you to go with Luke's Locker and Run-On. Good luck! I love marathons!

I ran the Chicago Marathon in 2004 and am planning to run it again this October. I ran two half marathons before that and I found them both to be really great training bases and inspiration for the full. Chicago was literally one of the top 3 best experiences of my life. The feeling you get when you finish is incredible. I highly recommend the Hal Higdon training plans. They used to be free but aren't anymore. I'd still say they are well worth it. www.halhigdon.com

Good Luck!
