Hey Good Lookin', What Ya' Got Cooking

Pizza with San Marzano Tomato Sauce

Last week we made homemade pizza..... this is something we often do, but this time I made homemade pizza sauce. Whenever I watch cooking shows they always talk about San Marzano tomatoes.... they are so sweet... they are perfect for cooking... they are available at every grocery store.... yada yada yada.

Well, first of all.... they are not that easy to find. Well, at least in Dallas and where I grocery shop. But, when I do find them I try to buy a can or two. And second, they are about twice as expensive as other canned tomatoes. BUT - they are good and worth it.

All I did was puree the entire can of tomatoes and then simmer over medium heat. I tossed in some chopped garlic, chopped basil, salt and pepper. I probably should have drained out some of the liquid before I pureed the tomatoes - the sauce was a little too thin for my liking. But that was an easy fix - pour the sauce over a strainer and toss some of the excess liquid.

Homemade dough. I normally buy the packets of Betty Crocker pizza crust... it is easy to keep in the pantry, plus all it needs it water. I normally add chopped basil or italian seasoning or garlic powder or dried red bell pepper into the dough to give it a little more zest.

I topped one of the pizzas with mozzarella, prosciutto and sliced tomatoes.

The other one was topped with a little bit of pesto sauce and mozzarella.

The prosciutto one was my favorite. The tomatoes did not turn out like I had envisioned, but it was delish. We used the extra sauce as a dipping sauce. Yum.

"It is a real princess ... and pretty horses"

Amazing. I got up at the crack of dawn and watched it all happen live. Everything about it was magical. The tree lined church. The veil. The dress. The love Prince William has for her. The list could go on and on.

But, this one picture right here.....

Love it. William and Catherine looking at each other. And then her dad looking at his baby girl. This one picture brings it all back down to earth for me. Royal Wedding craziness aside, it is his daughter's wedding day and all he wants for her is happiness.

Once Miss A got up she and I watched wedding reacaps while eating breakfast. There was no way on earth I was going to wake her up at 4:30AM to watch it live. I am not that crazy. I let her wear her princess pj's and I told her she was going to get to watch "a real life princess on tv." So, the entire time she was watching it, she kept saying, "Momma, look... it is a real princess. Momma, look at the pretty horses." So sweet.

Easter 2011

Did you have a nice Easter weekend? We did. We had Easter festivities for almost an entire week and Miss A loved all of the egg hunts.

Do you have an Easter tree? Growing up we always had one, so I have continued the tradition. This year Miss A was old enough to help decorate.... she took her job very seriously.
We had a church Easter Egg Hunt and the Easter Bunny was walking around, but Miss A was not too sure of him. She much preferred him when he was like this.

There was an egg hunt and an Easter party at her school.

We took her to see the Easter Bunny, but while we were waiting in line she passed the time by riding the elevator up and down (and up and down and up and down) with her Poppa.

We dyed eggs.

Went to another egg hunt.

And then finally Easter Sunday! Miss A was refusing to smile, so this was the best family shot we were able to get.

Blog Sale - Michele Watch

I recently got a new watch, so I am trying to sell my other Michele watch.

It is in great condition, I just don't think I will wear it enough to justify keeping it. I purchased this watch from Sake Fifth Avenue 5 years ago, original retail was $675, I am asking $375. The watch shows normal wear, but it is still a wonderful watch. I would still be wearing it, had I not been surprised with my new one!

Want to add this watch to your jewelery box? Just email me (mrspreppy@gmail.com) or leave a comment. I will send you a PayPal invoice and payment needs to be handled within 24 hours.

A Mother's Prayer for Her Child

Nada. That is what I have for you right now. So, instead of posting something stupid, I am going to post Tina Fey's prayer for her daughter. Even if you dont have children you will find this amusing.

"A Mother's Prayer for Her Child" by Tina Fey

“First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.

When the Crystal Meth is offered, may she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half and stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her when crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels. What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen. Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, for childhood is short – a Tiger Flower Blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long, and dry-humping in cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever, that she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers and the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a bitch in front of Hollister, give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, for I will not have that shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back. “My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Amen.”

Chewbeads

Do you ever look at something and think to yourself "Why did I not think of that?!?!" That is exactly what I did when I first read about Chewbeads.
Chewbeads are 100% non toxic, silicone beads that are made to be put inside little mouths.... plus, they are pretty cute for the momma to wear.

I did not know about these chic necklaces when Miss A was teething, but when #2 starts to teeth, she/he will be able to chew in style.

There are 2 different styles of necklaces, plus they offer bracelets and they all come in dozens of colors.

Today the daily deal website 8moms.com has a $30 chewbeads gift certificate for only $15. You can get 2 necklaces for the price of 1!

Go here for the deal - http://www.8moms.com/referral/AfTtsc

Now comes the hard part - deciding the colors!

Should I do a trio of blues?

OR turquoise, orange and pink?

OR white, black and yellow?

Ah..... decisions, decisions.

* I am not being compensated by chewbeads for this post. But, I would gladly accept some necklaces.

What's On My Phone

Here is another installment of "What Is On My Phone...."
The bluebonnets are beautiful this time of year. This field is not far from out house - we took Miss A up there a couple weeks ago for pictures.
She got this car for Christmas and LOVES it. "Momma, chase me!"
Spring has sprung.
I stole this recipe from Kate (Elefantitas Alegres) and it is wonderful. I served it over whole wheat pasta.... makes me hungry just looking at this picture.

I think this plate needs to be added to my plate wall.
The other day Miss A came up to me and said "Steve needs to eat on a plate. I be right back." And so, she came back with a plate of food for Steve.
My friend has a booth (Gypsy Soul Interiors) at an antique store here in town. I love everything she sells, so much so that I bought a new dresser for Miss A's new room AND I am going to replicate these huge canvases for our living room.
My mini me.
