Urban Life

Isn’t it funny how sometime it seems like your life just goes in big circles? As a preacher’s kid I grew up going to church, but when college time came…. Well, that was a different story. I don’t think my alarm was capable of going off on a Sunday morning. But it was something that I wanted to be a port of my life. Fast forward to now…

Married.
Young-ish.
No kids.
Dual career.

(I guess that makes us a DINK…. ) In my mind a DINK is a pretty good thing to be right now. But, when you are a DINK trying to find a church that you both like, well that is harder said than done. From my church experience, it seems there is always a spot for you in a church from birth until high school graduation. Then again once you have kids. That middle period… is kind of like purgatory, I guess. (I am married to a Catholic… I am picking up on these terms) Well, Mr. and I have been going back to my childhood church because Kathryn has started a great program for us DINK’s - Urban Life. I really like it… I am even going to a bible study. And for those of you who know me in real life, you probably just chuckled. Yes, you read that correctly…. A bible study. It is every Monday night and there are witnesses to prove that I have been there.

My husband and I have been having the exact same problem. We have completely not been involved in either of our churches since we went to college 13 years ago. Didn't seem like a big deal then. Well lately I have really been feeling the pull to get back to church and get involved. We then could not agree on what church to go to.
I am a Presbyterian and he is Episcopalian. I am just a bit more comfortable at my church and since I am the one wanting to get more involved he has decided that it will be be fine to make my chuch our home church.
So starting next Monday I am the newest member on the Wedding Committee. I am very excited to take this step and get more involved.
I hope you too are enjoying getting back to chuch.

I've been thinking about this for the past year. I want to start going back to church, but I can't seem to actually get myself motivated enough to find one that works for me right now in my life. So, I just keep sleeping in on Sundays. Sooner or later I'll do something about it though.

We've been going through the same thing and about a week before Easter we found a church we both liked and so far so good. I'm even attending a women's retreat this weekend. . .first time ever. I don't usually do retreats, bible study, etc. but I'm actually excited about the retreat.

The period in between high school and children is hard. My husband and I need to find a church here, but it has been hard to find a good fit.

Enjoy your weekend!

I know exactly what you mean!!!

I relate going to church with exercising- I know I should and I'll feel better, but it's hard to get in the routine!

Finding the right place for a couple coming from two separate religions IS a unique challenge (bless your heart)! I've been to church six measly times this year- four of those times were different denominations, experimenting with religions- trying to find a comprimise.

Anyway, sounds like you’ve found your fit! I hope you get a lot out of it. :)
